every child matters Indigenous Healing and Reconciliation Fund Special Collection this weekend

Catholics throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto are invited to participate in this special collection to support the Indigenous Healing & Reconciliation Fund. The collection is a national grassroots effort to assist healing and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples of This Land. Funds will support culture and language revitalization, education and community building, healing and reconciliation for communities and families and dialogue involving Indigenous elders, spiritual leaders and youth with a focus on Indigenous spirituality and culture. This is an opportunity to follow the invitation of the Holy Father for each one of us to become engaged in the healing and reconciliation journey. THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE

Members of the Barrie Council 1626, Knights of Columbus will be collecting donations for this year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive next weekend, October 7 and 8^th after all Masses. The Barrie Food Bank has asked that people consider making donations in cash, cheque, gift card or by visiting www.barriefoodbank.org. For those that wish to bring food, please donate the food using reusable grocery bags if possible as the Barrie Food Bank uses them to distribute food to their clients.

New Banners in the Church Proper

Left Side The two new banners hanging in the church proper depict a painting that is dedicated to the hope of explaining and contributing to the truth, peace, and reconciliation with the Indigenous community. It is in fact one painting divided into half.

The left side deals with the coming of colonial powers beginning of discovery. The sun contains a subtle compass which refers to the doctrine of discovery. Clouds begin to move in as a symbol of dark times to come. Creation through nature reacts with animals in flight and foliage deteriorating. The earth on the back of the turtle represents the Indigenous communities around the globe who have suffered through colonialism. The sand gradually covers the turtle but there is still hope with much of the image still showing. The children’s shoes are of course reference to residential schools and loss in general of a foot in Right side society.

The right side offers Hope of reconciliation with the father mother creator hands reaching down to the eagle and dove. There is still reference to the shoes and loss. The Indigenous eagle and Christian Dove/Holy Spirit come together as the eagle wings start to wrap around of embrace of the spirit hopefully in forgiveness.

Lastly, our Indigenous drummer/singer offers an invitation of us all in Wahkotowin a Muskeg Cree expresses to being in relationship with the creator. She is surrounded by colourful nature in the hope of a brighter and better future.

Christian Meditation is an ancient form of contemplative prayer rooted in the Christian tradition. We will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3^rd on Zoom. All are welcome! Preparing for Confirmation in Eastertime 2024

An Information Meeting for Parents and Young People

There will be an information meeting for parents and young people who are in grade 7 or older, baptized in the Roman Catholic Church and would like to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Participation in an information meeting is essential. Details regarding the preparation process, registration and the celebration of Confirmation will be shared at the meeting. The meeting will be at the church and begins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 5^th. You do not need to register for the meeting.

An Information Meeting for Parents

The parent meeting will in the church and begins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3^rd. You are asked to arrange for childcare so you may participate fully. You do not need to register for the meeting.

Youth Ministry

M.E.R.C.Y. (Ministry to Educate Roman Catholic Youth) is for youth grades J.K.-4 and gathers once a month on Friday nights from 6:00-7:30 p.m. where we explore our faith in a dynamic way through activities, games, crafts and music. Our next gathering is Friday, October 13.

EDGE is a youth ministry program for youth grades 5-8 to come together once a month on a Friday from 6:00-7:30 p.m. EDGE is a safe, fun place for youth to find solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith and most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. Our next gathering is Friday, October 27.

LIFE TEEN – for high school teens to explore their faith through talks, prayer and friendship meeting monthly on Sunday nights. Our next gathering is TODAY, Sunday, October 1^st following the 4:00 p.m. Mass.
