Do you want to know more about palliative care?

palliative careWe invite you to participate in a learning session on Horizons of Hope: A Toolkit for Catholic Parishes on Palliative Care.

Our faith in Jesus Christ has much to teach us about living well until the end of life. The program will help parishioners, caregivers, and family members facing a terminal illness to learn more about palliative care. The four sessions address issues such as:  understanding the dying process, discernment and decision-making at the end of life, accompaniment and the importance of building Compassionate Communities.

The program will be offered at St. Mary’s on four Wednesday evenings from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. beginning September 28th and concluding October 19th. Participation in all 4 sessions is expected. Season of Creation: Listen to the Voice of Creation

In 2015, Pope Francis established Sept. 1 as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. Pope Francis encourages Catholics around the world to pray for our common home. The World Day of Prayer marks the beginning of the Season of Creation.  The season of creation concludes on October 4th which is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron of ecology and animals.  Each year an ecumenical steering committee selects a theme, and this year inspiration is taken from Psalm 19:1-4 that proclaims, “Listen to the Voice of Creation.” A short video to introduce this season may be watched via this link, https://youtu.be/WyjUTvGmliI

“If we learn how to listen, we can hear in the voice of creation a kind of dissonance.  On the one hand, we can hear a sweet song in praise of our beloved Creator; on the other, an anguished plea, lamenting our mistreatment of this our common home”.                                                               Pope Francis
