SHEPHERD’S TRUST COLLECTION

Support for Retired PriestsNext Weekend - November 18/19, 2023

The mission of The Shepherds’ Trust is to help ensure that elderly and disabled priests are provided with sufficient financial resources to lead a dignified life after many years of ministry.

Your generous gift will help our priests to maintain a modest but active and independent lifestyle in their retirement years.  For priests who are ill or otherwise infirm, the Trust ensures they have access to nursing home facilities and medical care.  Thank you for your support of this important work. Please also consider remembering The Shepherds’ Trust in your will.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Red Wednesday – November 15th, 2023

Red WednesdayIn the Archdiocese of Toronto, and throughout all of Canada, we are blessed with freedom of religion where we can all choose to worship Christ openly. Sadly, this is not the case elsewhere. Throughout parts of Africa, Asia and South America, tens of millions of people are oppressed, victimized and abused for the sole reason of holding a belief in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. The treatment of these Christians can extend beyond the inability to worship freely, and often involves violence, imprisonment and in the worst of cases, death.

For more than 75 years, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN-Canada) has been advocating for persecuted Christians worldwide. The annual Red Wednesday event to pray for and raise awareness to the plight of persecuted Christians will take place once again this year.

I will be offering the holy sacrifice of the Mass for the intentions of persecuted Christians at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica on November 15 at 5:00 p.m.  I invite you and your parishioners to consider joining me for this occasion or pray the rosary in solidarity with faith communities around the world on Red Wednesday. ACN-Canada has prepared a Rosary for Persecuted Christians available at this link: https://acn-canada.org/rw/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Rosary-for-Persecuted-Christians.pdf. I invite you all to earnestly pray for Christians around the world who are suffering many kinds of persecution. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of peace, intercede for us and bring the needs of these suffering people to the feet of her son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.  Sincerely Yours in Jesus with Mary, Most Rev. Francis Leo.
