Manipur Mission, MCBS Zion Province, Imphal, India

Manipur is a new mission for the MCBS Zion Province. Although it is a life-threatening and challenging endeavor, the congregation wholeheartedly accepted the invitation from the Archdiocese of Imphal, Manipur. Manipur is a beautiful land characterized by its flowers, hills, and valleys. Various tribes and Adivasis coexist in this region. Unfortunately, many of the hillside areas are underdeveloped, and the population lacks access to education. The people of the hills depend on the forests for their livelihood, yet they remain happy.

However, on May 3, 2023—a day that will be unforgettable for everyone—ethnic violence erupted, drastically changing the lives of the people living in the hills and valleys. Many lives were lost; numerous children became orphans, and many people lost their homes, land, and beloved pets. They were left with only the clothes they were wearing and had to flee into the hills and forests. Many houses, churches, and Catholic schools were set on fire.

In response to this crisis, the Archdiocese invited the MCBS congregation to assist the people of God in the diocese. The diocese has designated three villages near the Myanmar border for care: Behiang as the central village, with Suangphuh and Hangsum also included. We are working among the underprivileged and displaced individuals. The congregation bravely undertook this mission.
