January 27 - THE AWFUL TRUTH (1937) The ultimate and most revered of the 1930's screwball comedies: a happily married couple (Irene Dunne and Cary Grant) decide to separate and spend the rest of the movie trying to spoil each other’s plans in Leo McCarey’s wonderfully daffy farce about the trials and tribulation of marriage.

February 3 - BALL OF FIRE (1941)  A classic comedic riff on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, as a showgirl (Barbara Stanwyck) running from the police hides out in house of bachelor college professors writing an encyclopedia and falls for one of them (Gary Cooper) in this hilarious and silly romantic comedy from master director Howard Hawks.

February 24 - THE HEIRESS (1949) - Director William Wyler’s classic adaptation of Henry James’ novel Washington Square with Olivia de Havilland and Montgomery Clift in the leads; set in the 1800s New York, this tells the story about an unmarried naive woman who is wooed by a young fortune hunter with questionable intentions. With Sir Ralph Richardson and Miriam Hopkins. Winner of 4 Academy Awards and nominated for Best Picture.

March 10 - TWELVE ANGRY MEN (1957)  - Twelve men on one jury: Henry Fonda pieces together a murder case and challenges his fellow jurors to look beyond their racial prejudices. With Jack Warden and Lee J Cobb in director Sidney Lumet’s first feature film. Nominated for Best Picture.

SPECIAL: MARCH 31JESUS CHRIST on FILM - For Holy Week we will hold a film retrospective and discussion of Jesus’ Image, Life and Death as depicted ON SCREEN, from the silent era to classic films like Ben Hur and The Greatest Story Ever Told, up to The Passion of the Christ, as well as some controversial choices all of which have enlightened and challenged our faith for generations.

April 14LILIES OF THE FIELD (1963) Handyman Sidney Poitier (in an Academy Award winning performance) reluctantly helps a group of German missionary nuns build a chapel in the middle of the Arizona desert, believing him to be an answer to their prayers, in this warm comedy about faith and finding out God's plan for each of us.

April 28 - EASTER PARADE (1948) - Fred Astaire and Judy Garland dance and sing their way to the Easter parade in Irving Berlin’s musical holiday classic; with Ann Miller and Peter Lawford and directed by Charles Walters.

May 12 - THE THIRD MAN (1949) – Orson Welles plays the mysterious Harry Lime in this twisting comedy-thriller as a writer (Joseph Cotton) accidentally uncovers a murder plot in postwar Vienna in Carol Reed’s great British film of 1949.

May 26 - THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE (1962) - John Ford’s classic western starring John Wayne, James Stewart and Lee Marvin about the difference between truth-telling and myth; as a mild-mannered lawyer faces off against bully outlaw Liberty Valance with help from cynical rancher in a small western town, also staring Vera Miles.

June 9 - THE RAINMAKER (1956) - A wonderfully acted drama starring Katherine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster about a lonely middle-aged woman and her relationship with a charismatic con-man who promises rain in a town suffering from drought; with Lloyd Bridges, Earl Holliman and Wendell Corey.

June 16 - THE PAJAMA GAME (1957) – Doris Day stars in one of the most ebullient screen musicals ever made about labor troubles and romance in an Iowa pajama factory; with John Raitt and Carol Haney and energetically directed by Stanley Donen (Singin’ in the Rain).
